Silver Spirit Day 2 - St. George's, Part I


Just a few quick photos of St. George’s, Grenada to start the morning off!

After ten combined hours of flights yesterday, crawling into the luxurious bed in our stateroom aboard Silver Spirit was nothing short of heavenly.  Indeed, we slept like babies until just after 6am, when the rising sun woke us up to a beautiful day in the Caribbean.

The capital of Grenada, St. George’s is home to roughly 8,000 people and is a popular port of call on many Southern Caribbean itineraries.  The harbor itself is actually a submerged volcanic crater, and the wreck of the Bianca C, a Costa Cruises liner that burned out and sank in 1961, lies not far from here.  In fact, The Times rated the wreck was rated one of the top ten dive sites in the world.

If diving is not your thing, there’s plenty of other diversions to keep you happy.  Grand Anse Beach, located just a short distance from the cruise terminal, is arguably one of the prettiest beaches in the Caribbean.  For the history buff, there’s also Fort George, situated high atop a hill at the harbor entrance.  Built by the French in 1705,  the for

At 7:30, we set out for La Terrazza to have breakfast.  I was prepared to battle the lines at the buffet – except there weren’t any.  Even breakfast aboard Silver Spirit is a serene treat, where waiters top up your coffee or bring you a fresh glass of juice.
